KARACHI: Federal Urdu University of Arts, Science and Technology (FAUUST)’s VC Professor Dr. Muhammad Ziauddin talking to journalists here said that institution was suffering from severe financial crisis due to lack of interest from federal and provincial government.

Pointing out that University trying to survive within meager resources, has not augmented fees since 2019 keeping in view unbridled inflation and endemic, yet when fee restructuring was done students resorted to protest.

He informed that despite skyrocketing inflation, HEC had deemed it fit to keep grant fixed for four years. A grant of 3 billion rupees was requested for but HEC only approved quarter of that.

He lamented that unlike other universities Sindh government was not providing any support to FUUAST despite fact that it was metropolis’s second largest university engaged in disseminating education.

When former VC discussed matter with President, he suggested that fee structure should be revised. Since there is ban on new affiliations with colleges, there is no other means of generating funds.

On August 2 it was decided unanimously in an Academic Council huddle that fees should be augmented by 50 percent. Still FUUAST’s fee structure is lesser than other federal and provincial universities.

Registrar Dr. Mahjabin, Dean Faculty Science Dr. Muhammad Zahid, Dean Faculty Business, Commerce, Economics, Dr. Masood Mashkoor, Treasurer Syed Iqbal Hussain Naqvi, Student Affairs Muhammad Afzal were present.
