‘Extension in COAS’ tenure wrong precedent’

Islamabad: Former Speaker of National Assembly and leader of Tehreek-e-Insaf Asad Qaiser said that extension in Army chief tenure is wrong precedent adding that Parliament should revoke this legislation as institution is important not person.
In an interview with VOA’s Ali Furqan former speaker termed decision of extension given to former Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa big mistake but extension was collective decision of all political parties.
We do not want to talk about circumstances under which this legislation was enacted, but tradition of military chief extension is wrong. He said that extension of tenure of former Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa was not only decision of PTI but joint decision of all political parties. Discussing current political situation Asad Qaiser said that decision to go back to assemblies will be revisited as Speaker accepted resignation of 34 PTI lawmakers after their announcement to join Parliament.
