Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani, former MPA and Sindh Transport Minister from the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), revealed his intention on Wednesday to run as an independent candidate for the PS-3 Jacobabad seat in the upcoming election.
This decision stemmed from his dissatisfaction after being denied the PPP ticket, which was instead allocated to Aurangzaib Panhwar, previously defeated in the last polls.
Expressing disappointment with the party's choice, Jakhrani stated that he was overlooked based on the advice of local leaders. Hence, he announced his candidacy as an independent for the PS-3 Jacobabad constituency.
Jakhrani had previously served two terms as a Sindh Assembly member under the PPP's banner, from 2013 to 2018 and then from 2018 to 2023. During his initial tenure, he held ministerial positions for transport and population welfare.
In response to this development, PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro instructed candidates, apart from those running on the party ticket, to promptly withdraw their nomination papers. He also directed local leadership to report any party members contesting against the official decision, warning of stringent action against those disobeying party directives.
