The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is poised to review CPPA's plea, potentially leading to a Rs4.66 per unit surge in electricity prices. CPPA reported a production of over 702 million units in November at Rs9.44 per unit.
The appeal by CPPA seeks an increase in electricity rates for November, accounting for fuel price adjustments and outstanding payments. Their petition highlights that electricity generation in November relied on water (36.5%), nuclear (over 20%), local coal (13.08%), imported coal (over 6%), LNG (10.6%), and local gas (9.2%).
NEPRA is scheduled to consider CPPA's request shortly. Earlier, Pakistan complied with IMF demands, resulting in increased electricity and gas tariffs in 2023, burdening consumers with over Rs2,200 billion in additional costs.
