Karachi: Former MQM-Pakistan National Assembly member Muzammil Qureshi and ex-Sindh Assembly member Wasim Qureshi who joined PPP urged people of Karachi to support PPP in upcoming elections, citing its “Contributions to development of province” and substantial vote bank as crucial factors to choose it.

Endorsement for PPP from former MQM members came during press conference led by PPP leader Saeed Ghani. Mirza Khalil Baig, Saleem Bandani, Manohar Lal, Sumita Afzal, Tehseen Abidi, Muhammad Ali Brohi, Tauqeer Ahmed and Tanveer-ul-Haq Thanvi were also present.

MQM-P and PML-N had agreed on seat adjustment that is seen by many as an anti-PPP move that could give latter an advantage in urban areas of Sindh during general elections.

Although several former lawmakers and office-bearers of MQM-P had joined PPP over past two years, recent inclusion of two former lawmakers into PPP has created ripples. Muzammil said everyone had right to join political party of their choice and any allegation or demeaning remarks by rivals had no value.

“I want people to try PPP as their work is evident and they have large vote bank in province.” Khawaja Sohail Mansoor credited party for appointing an educated individual Murtaza Wahab as Karachi’s Mayor. Former MPA Wasim Qureshi highlighted, “Karachi got peace after numerous sacrifices. Today we have no no-go area in city.”

PPP leader Ghani asserted that MQM was purportedly leading campaign to impede inclusion of more of its members into PPP. Ghani added that more such inductions were expected in days to come.
