Karachi: Aahung, alongside Baithak and Wang, is spearheading a crucial advocacy campaign to promote gender equality and empower communities through education.
This impactful advocacy campaign led by Aahung in collaboration with community-based organizations Baithak and Wang in the outskirts of Karachi and Lasbela, Balochistan focused on addressing the intersectionality of climate, gender, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) issues.
Engaging with young girls and women, the initiative aimed to understand their challenges related to SRHR, including menstruation and access to water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities.
Using life skills based education as a tool, these session with both in and out of school young girls covered topics such as menstrual myths, nutrition during menstruation, and sanitary practices, shedding light on reproductive challenges, amidst a climate crisis and gender disparities.
It also covered harmful traditional norms like child early and forced marriages.
Aahung since its inception is advocating for the integration of life skills-based gender-transformative curricula into mainstream education, the organization seeks to address systemic issues and promote inclusivity in educational settings.
