Islamabad: Former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal moved Islamabad High Court (IHC) against Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC)’s orders, asking him to appear before committee.

Former NAB chief filed petition in court through President High Court Bar, Shoaib Shaheen. On July 7, PAC summoned Justice (retd) Iqbal on harassment charges. He was called on complaint of a woman, Tayyaba Gul who had written a letter to PAC chairman, levelling harassment allegations against him. PAC meeting had also discussed allegations of Ms Amna Masood Janjua against former NAB chairman with regard to harassment of women visiting commission of missing persons headed by Iqbal.

In his petition, filed as head of commission for missing persons, Justice (retd) Iqbal said that minutes of meeting held by PAC on July 7 should be declared illegal and committee should be refrained from taking any disciplinary action. Petition stated that meeting decided to remove former NAB chief as commission’s head and to contact Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in this regard. “It is beyond committee’s jurisdiction to make such a decision and PAC’s chairman is misusing his powers,” stated petition. Ex-NAB chief made secretary of Interior Ministry, secretary of National Assembly and secretary of PAC as parties in his application.
