karachi: Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon said that drugs are not only scourge but can affect anyone at any time. Perhaps this issue has even reached doors of our elected representatives. To combat it, we must work together and cooperate with one another.
During question period in Sindh Assembly, he said Excise and Narcotics Control Department is working tirelessly to combat drugs. He added that members of House are fortunate to have passed drug bill.
He said that no matter how powerful drug dealers are, they will be brought to justice. Currently, Sindh government has capacity to treat 400 drug addicts, though private drug rehabilitation centers are also in operation.
Scourge of drugs is not limited to Sindh but extends to Punjab, KP and Balochistan-indeed, all of Pakistan is impacted by this crisis. Even before I became Excise Minister, I was committed to fight against narcotics,” he said. He called on elected representatives of House to support government by providing lists of individuals involved in heinous drug trade, assuring that action would be taken.
He emphasised that Pakistan Peoples’ Party leadership-Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and President Asif Ali Zardari has issued clear directives to take all necessary steps to combat and eradicate narcotics.
He presented resolution in support of Kashmir in Sindh Assembly, which was unanimously approved.
“Kashmiris have endured decades of oppression by India and their right to self-determination has been denied. He said that Indian government has been violating fundamental rights of Kashmiris, noting that current massacre of youth in Kashmir is unprecedented in history.
“We want to make it clear to world that violation of Kashmiris’ basic rights is unacceptable under any circumstances,” he emphasised. He called on international community to take action to end Indian brutality and aggression in Kashmir.
