KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples' Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has emphasised on urgent need for establishment of constitutional court to address and bridge disparities among Pakistan's provinces.
Speaking at gathering of lawyers at Sindh High Court, Bilawal highlighted that such court would play crucial role in ensuring equitable governance and resolving inter-provincial differences.
His call for this judicial reform underscores his commitment to strengthening constitutional framework and promoting unity across nation.
PPP Chairman slammed past periods of authoritarian rule in Pakistan, highlighting instances where judges permitted amendments to Constitution and neglected their responsibilities, granting excessive power to dictators.
Bilawal emphasised PPP's longstanding association with legal community and its role in shaping Pakistan's constitution over three generations. He credited 1973 Constitution with maintaining country's unity and strength.
He recounted how, during authoritarian regimes, judges often ignored constitutional principles and allowed dictatorial amendments.
He noted that even in those times, leaders like his late mother, Benazir Bhutto, were subjected to undue scrutiny and imprisonment, aimed at silencing dissent.
Bilawal contrasted past practices with his party's efforts towards democratic reforms, including Charter of Democracy, which sought to address and rectify shortcomings of previous governance structures. He reiterated PPP's commitment to judicial reforms and upholding democratic values.
