KARACHI: Sindh High Court has directed federal and provincial governments to provide mechanism for determining cases of enforced disappearance.
Directives were issued during hearing of petitions seeking recovery of missing persons, presided over by Justice Salahudin Panhwar. During hearing, woman informed court about her sons, Muaz and Talha, who had been missing since 2014 near airport. Government lawyer highlighted that 41 Joint Investigations Team meeting and 17 Provincial Task Force sessions have been held for recovery of citizens. Justice Salahuddin questioned definition of enforced disappearance and emphasised need for clear policy, suggesting formation of committee with capable officials from law enforcement agencies and FIA. Court directed that committee completed its work and presented report within two months, adjourning further hearing for two weeks.
