Energy Minister Imtiaz Sheikh says generation of power via waste end next year

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said that two large plants for generating electricity from waste at landfill site of Karachi will start generating electricity by end of next year.
Presiding over a meeting, he said that waste-to-energy project was a priority project of Sindh government. Meeting was attended by representatives of two contracting firms, Khan Renewable Energy Pvt Ltd and Green Waste Energy Pvt Ltd, Energy Secretary Abu Bakr Madani, Managing Director Sindh Solid Waste Management Board Zubair Chana and other officials of energy department. Meeting was informed that two plants would be completed by end of next year 2023.
They will start generating electricity on a commercial basis. Each of two plants has a production capacity of 50 MW. It was informed that Sindh Solid Waste Management Board has provided space and waste supply assurance for two plants, while work on feasibility report and other regulations of two plants was going on fast tracks.
Meeting was informed that discussions will be started soon for potential buyer of electricity generated from waste.
