ISLAMABAD: In bizarre turn of events, former Punjab Chief Minister Parvez Elahi was arrested again shortly after Islamabad High Court ordered his release. Elahi was arrested from outside Islamabad Police Lines hours after Islamabad High Court suspended his detention order.

He was arrested by Counter-Terrorism Department in case registered at CTD Police Station of Islamabad. Police said team of CTD had arrested him.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf also took to X and condemned arrest of former Chief Minister Punjab.

Earlier, declaring detention of Chaudhry Parvez Elahi under Maintenance of Public Order-III null and void, IHC ordered immediate release of PTI leader and issued notices to both parties. IHC’s Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri conducted hearing of case.

Court ordered the authorities to produce Parvez Elahi on next date of hearing. Until next hearing, Parvez Elahi should not be part of any provocative activity, court said. Court further said Elahi would not issue any statement to media till next date of hearing.  Pervez Elahi’s lawyer told court that Lahore High Court had ordered release of Elahi on September 1. LHC barred law-enforcement agencies from arresting PTI President in any other case. However, Islamabad police violated order of Lahore High Court and arrested former Chief Minister.
