ECP writes to Sindh IGP for security of LG polls in Khi, Hyd

KARACHI: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has written letter to Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon to maintain security during second phase of Local Government elections in province.

In second phase, LG polls are scheduled to be held in Karachi and Hyderabad divisions on January 15 and ECP’s preparations have entered final stages.

Meanwhile, head of ECP’s Sindh chapter has directed secretary of electoral body to reach Karachi ahead of elections.

Much-awaited LG polls will be held in 25 towns of seven districts of Karachi division comprising Karachi Central District, Karachi East District, Karachi South District, Karachi West District, Korangi District, Malir District and Keamari District. Polling will also be conducted in Hyderbad division’s nine districts including Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Badin, Dadu, Jamshoro, Thatta and District Sujawal.

Earlier this week, ECP rejected petition of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan seeking use of new voter lists for Karachi and Hyderabad Local Government elections.
