ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan has approved Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s request for some time to submit record in party’s intra-party election case.
Commission then adjourned hearing in case till October 2. Election Commission of Pakistan heard PTI intra-party election case, where party Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan sought 10 days to submit record. Member of Commission said to Barrister Gohar, “It is good that you said God willing you will submit record”.
Commission asked Gohar where intra-party elections were held. He replied that they conducted elections in all four provinces and Islamabad. ECP’s member from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asked PTI Chairman to suppose they did not recognise PTI’s intra-party elections, then under Elections Act, party can be banned for five years. Member asked what action Commission can take on PTI not conducting intra-party elections. Barrister Gohar said they can fully assist Commission on this matter. Speaking to media after hearing, Gohar said PTI conducted best intra-party elections in all four provinces and Islamabad and elected chairman, secretary general and four presidents.
“Nobody objected to intra-party election,” he remarked. He said ECP had asked constitutional and legal questions in its letter, but not raised any objections. In reserved seats case, Commission itself submitted documents, adding that its comments regarding PTI structure were wrong. “We filed reply to Commission’s questions in Supreme Court,” he added.
