Karachi: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) rejected plea seeking disqualification of Pakistan Peoples’ Party MPA Faryal Talpur.  ECP announced reserved verdict over petition filed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders Arsalan Taj and Rabia Azfar seeking disqualification of PPP co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari’s sister as member of Sindh Assembly.

In its verdict, Election Commission wrote that respondent had disclosed her assets and that disqualification requires material and concrete evidence. Petitioners failed to make case for disqualification, it added.

Petition alleged that PPP leader should be disqualified under Article 62 of Constitution as she failed to declare details of her assets before ECP, which means she is no longer ‘Sadiq and Ameen’. Faryal Talpur owned properties in Larkana and Shahdadkot, petition stated, adding Talpur had been nominated in case pertaining to billions of rupees in corruption through fake bank accounts. “Talpur didn’t declare her assets properly and concealed facts,” petitioner’s counsel argued.
