ISLAMABAD: Meeting of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has been summoned to discuss reserved seats verdict by Supreme Court (SC), citing sources.
13-member bench of top court, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, ruled that PTI is eligible for allocation of reserved seats, dealing major setback to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ruling coalition. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah announced 8-5 majority verdict, setting aside Peshawar High Court’s order wherein it had upheld Election Commission of Pakistan’s decision denying reserved seats to SIC. Meeting will be held on July 18 to discuss options to implement SC’s verdict in SIC reserved seats. Secretary Election Commission of Pakistan and legal wing officials will brief Commission. Ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has filed review petition against Supreme Court’s verdict declaring PTI eligible for reserved seats. PML-N in its petition has made SIC and Election Commission of Pakistan as respondents.
