ECP issues final results of Karachi LG polls

Karachi: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released final results of union committees (UCs) in Karachi where Local Body elections were held on January 15. Results of 20 UCs have been withheld due to complaints and recounting requests.

According to final results, Pakistan Peoples’ Party won 84 UCs, Jamaat-e-Islami 84 and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf bagged 40. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz won 5 and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl 1. There are 246 UCs in Karachi, however, election was held in 235 UCs due to death of 11 candidates.  ECP is yet to hold polling on remaining 11 union councils to complete electoral process. Election of mayor requires 124 votes.
