ISLAMABAD” Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) issued bailable arrest warrants of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry in contempt of ECP case. They had filed petitions for exemption from attendance.

Four-member commission had reserved judgment following completion of arguments. Commission while announcing verdict rejected exemption from attendance plea of Imran Khan.

Commission issued bailable arrest warrants of Asad Umar and Fawad Chaudhry too. Supreme Court had allowed ECP to continue contempt of ECP proceedings against Imran Khan.

It was said in court order Sindh and Lahore High Courts have only stopped from releasing final decision.

Election Act empowers ECP for initiating proceedings. SC said in its orders ECP should continue its proceedings against Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry and Asad Umar. ECP should also decide on PTI objections as per law because no high court has barred ECP from initiating proceedings.

On twitter PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry has said ECP decision for issuing bailable arrest warrants is contempt of high court decision.

Asad Umar said in his statement ECP has issued arrest warrants of Imran Khan, Fawad Chaudhry and in respect of him. Holding fair and transparent election is job of ECP but it is engaged in these jobs leaving its own job.
