ECP denies Secy’s resignation rumours

ISLAMABAD: Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) clarified that electoral body’s Secretary Omar Hamid Khan was unwell due to coronavirus and has not resigned from his position.
ECP spokesperson denied reports in local media regarding his resignation and added, “Hameed has been unwell for past few days and is currently on medical rest”.
Statement by spokesperson added that Secretary will return to his duties once he has recovered.
According to spokesperson of electoral body, Commission is fully functional despite Secretary’s absence and there were “No obstacles nor any hindrance in functioning of Commission”. “Election Commission’s offices are working even on holidays,” said statement. Spokesperson added that two special secretaries of electoral body are performing their duties diligently in absence of Secretary.
Meanwhile, Caretaker Minister for Information, Broadcasting and Parliamentary Affairs Murtaza Solangi urged people not to pay attention to rumours.
