ISLAMABAD: Announcing verdict reserved earlier on August 18, 2022, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) declared Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as President of Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).
ECP declared dismissal of Chaudhry Shujaat by PML-Q’s Central Working Committee (CWC), being contradictory to party’s constitution. ECP also declared election schedule issued by PML-Q as null and void. Former Prime Minister Chaudhry Shujaat had filed petition in ECP, when in July 2022, PML-Q’s CWC decided to release him from duties of party President citing health concerns.
ECP retained Chaudhry Shujaat as PML-Q President till final decision on his petition. However, General Council meeting of PML-Q splinter group on January 26, this year removed Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as party President and appointed Chaudhry Wajahat Hussain as new President of PML-Q. Decision to remove Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain from party command was taken at CWC meeting headed by Senator Kamil Ali Agha.
