RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) becomes political party in arrest of PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry.
He claimed government had planned “Something else” in guise of elections. Ahmed predicted that round of arresting people would be started before IMF programme and it would prove last nail in coffin of government. Referring to depleting foreign exchange reserves and IMF’s conditions, he said prevailing economic and power crises would prove bone in throat for government. He said country had come to halt and arrest of Fawad Chaudhry would add to political tension.
“Now decisions will be taken on roads as country is on course of chaos instead of elections,” he said, adding that people would not trust results of elections as ECP had lost public confidence. He said those who were demanding elections were trying to evade these. AML Chief said beneficiaries of amendments to NAB laws would soon face accountability in court of public.
PTI leader was arrested from his residence in Lahore after ECP Secretary Umer Hameed had case registered against him for threatening members of Election Commission in speech. In series of tweets, former Interior Minister said ECP’s duty was to hold elections in country and not to file cases against people, adding that arrest of Chaudhry had exposed intentions of government.
