Economic reform caretaker govt’s top priority: Kakar

ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar assured that his interim government will focus all its energies on reforming economy and also ensure continuity in economic policies.

Interim premier made assurance while getting briefing on country’s economic situation. Meeting was attended by State Bank of Pakistan Governor, finance and power secretaries and chairman of Federal Board of Revenue. Officials briefed PM Kakar in detail about measures being taken to bring about stability and further improvement in country’s economy and ongoing reforms in power sector
“Will maintain continuity in country’s economic policies and bring more economic improvement,” he assured. He said that public welfare projects will continue uninterrupted during his government and directed that international standard facilities should be ensured in health and education sectors.

Caretaker premier added that his government would prioritise steps to increase foreign investment via Special Investment Facilitation Council. Kakar said that his government would accelerate implementation of ongoing reforms in power sector. While measures to increase tax revenue should be strictly followed, he directed. “Caretaker government will focus on deregulation to improve economy.”

He directed officials to submit detailed report on ongoing reforms in each sector. Sources informed earlier that Kakar has sped up consultation for formation of Cabinet.
