Economic, law order situation not ‘okay’ to hold polls: PM

Lahore: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that current economic and law and order situation in country are not worth conducting immediate elections. Such statement emerged after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired meeting in which current political and constitutional situation of country was discussed. Legal experts, Law Minister Nazir Tarar, Malik Ahmed Khan and Mansoor Awan participated in meeting. Briefing was given regarding hearing of case in Supreme Court.
Legal experts briefed PM Shehbaz on legal and constitutional aspects of election case in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Meanwhile, it is also learnt that Shehbaz Sharif has also called meeting of parliamentary party of Pakistan Muslim League-N. There will be consultation on political issues at session. Prime Minister will brief members on political scenario.
In backdrop of reservations expressed by political parties on ongoing census, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif summoned meeting of his like-minded parties to allay their concerns. Meeting will be held on April 5. Reservations and objections raised by political parties will come under discussion during meeting.
MQM-P and Pakistan Peoples’ Party have conveyed their reservations to federal government about ongoing census. MQM delegation will also attend April 5 meeting.
This is first time country’s population is being counted digitally. Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had threatened to quit ruling alliance and said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah had grave concerns over ongoing census.
Decision was taken during high-level meeting of Pakistan Democratic Movement parties, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss overall political situation of country, according to statement issued by Prime Minister Office.
Coalition parties expressed lack of confidence in Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial, Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Muneeb Akhtar.
