Draft policy to be prepared at Sindh level: Energy Minister Nasir Shah

Karachi: Sindh Minister of Energy, Development and Planning Syed Nasir Hussain Shah decided that provincial level and draft policy will be made in relation to production of LIQUID (GAS) and (REA) fertilizers from Thar coal.

Meeting of Sindh Coal Authority was held under chairmanship of Sindh Coal Authority-Energy Department. Consultant Dr. Farid A. Malik, Deputy Director Asif Mangi and Umeer Ali Qaimkhani were present. Detailed briefing was given in meeting regarding making gas from coal.

According to send test results, consultant submitted new report according to which Thar coal was declared subject for gasification in international laboratory of South Africa.

Meeting was also informed about result of gas production from coal. Country can save about 500 million dollars in foreign exchange annually.

In terms of gas import, if we build an energy system from Thar’s 175 billion tonnes of coal reserves, we can reduce energy import bill by 50 percent, while green pollution can also be avoided with coal technology.

In meeting, use of old gas fire also came under discussion. Sindh Energy Minister will personally contact federal Minister for Energy regarding coal gasification,it was added.
