Dr Azra says three months needed to drain out floodwater

KARACHI: Sindh Health Minister Dr Azra Pechucho said three months are needed to drain out floodwater from affected areas of province.  Addressing a press conference here, Azra Pechuho said that Sindh government cannot give an exact date when flood victims will be rehabilitated.

She said that phase-wise return of flood victims to their houses has begun. People are being shifted to areas where floodwater level has dropped down, minister said. Government is also providing ration to people. On increasing cases of Dengue, she said that province has reported 44 deaths to mosquito-borne infection in current year.

Number of deaths is higher in Karachi, she added. Around 7.4 million displaced in Sindh and government and Health Department has managed to treat 3.9 million till now, Pechucho added. She said that technical support will be needed in addition to other support being provided by international donors as this climate change emergency will be regular occurrence and we need to be prepared for all possibilities.
