Dr Aafia release case: FO proposes to make efforts afresh at diplomatic level

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) while directing to file progress report regarding release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui has adjourned hearing of case for two weeks. 

Petition in respect of release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui imprisoned in US came up for hearing before a single bench of IHC led by Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan here.  Asad Burki legal advisor of foreign office appeared in court. He proposed to make efforts afresh at diplomatic level with US in connection with release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui.  Foreign office representative said fresh diplomatic efforts can be made with US on matter of release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, Foreign office can take up this issue at diplomatic level. Our attorney general can write a letter to US Attorney General.

Foreign office can make efforts at diplomatic level only. Legal front has to be seen by interior ministry.  Dr Fouzia Siddiqui told court application was filed in office for remission of sentence of prisoners in US.  Court while directing foreign office to file progress report adjourned hearing of case for two weeks. –Online
