ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office (FO) revealed that jailed in US Dr Aafia Siddiqui did not want to contact her family. FO further told that 300 minutes per month were allotted to Dr Siddqui to contact her family, however, she did not want to do it herself. “Office has informed her family regarding her choice”, added statement. If she did not want to establish contact, statement said, she could not be forced to do so.
Last summer, the IHC directed the Foreign Ministry to facilitate Dr Aafia’s family in securing a visa for the US, so they could visit the country and see her. Dr Aafia was indicted by a New York federal district court in September 2008 on charges of attempted murder and assault, stemming from an incident during an interview with the US authorities in Ghazni, Afghanistan — charges that she denied.
