RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said state had been sunk, not saved, as people were state, who had taken to streets for their survival.

Doubling electricity bill was economic suicide, he said in statement posted on microblogging website X, adding that one would have to see what petrol and power [prices] were going to produce next month.

Time had come to get rid of economic slavery, Rasheed said. He said middle class had virtually died, adding that both President and Prime Minister were on X.

He said former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar too had reached London after pushing country and poor towards destruction. He was proving true to his [Dar’s] colours. All relatives rushed to their last refuge but were not in position to come out of their homes even there, former Interior Minister remarked.

Rasheed said all political parties, except PML-N, were calling for elections within 90 days. They would part ways with PML-N which would have to take responsibility for all mess.

He questioned what members of 13-party ruling alliance were thinking at time of inking agreement with IMF. PPP signed census results and then also took stance on issue of holding elections within 90 days, Rasheed mentioned.

Those who distributed sweets after IMF deal were hiding in London, AML Chief quipped. He said poor won’t benefit from not using AC in caretaker Prime Minister’s room and added that interim setup had nothing do with inflation and higher electricity tariff as it was a product of 13-member coalition government that ruled for 16 months.
