ISLAMABAD: A District and Sessions Court yesterday granted post-arrest bail to Senator Azam Swati in a case related to controversial tweets. Special Judge Central Raja Asif Mehmood announced verdict which was reserved a day ago. Court directed Swati to deposit surety bonds worth Rs 10,000.
Senator Azam Swati was taken into custody by FIA’s Cybercrime Wing (CCW) from his home in Islamabad a week ago registering a case against him over tweets. Earlier, bail plea of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Azam Swati was heard on October 20 and court reserved verdict. At outset of hearing, prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi objected to jurisdiction of court adding that case should be presented before session’s judge.
He opined that Swati made hateful remarks about Army Chief in Tweet and tried to incite rebellion within Army. Abbasi also said that PTI leader in his statements blamed Army Chief for acquittal of a few accused. “What is connection of Army Chief with court’s verdict,” he questioned.
