ISLAMABAD: Government and allies including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl, Balochistan National Party Mengal and National Party (Bizenjo) ended deadlock over Reko Diq legislation, citing sources.
Team of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s representatives comprising ministers Ayaz Sadiq and Azam Nazeer Tarar became successful to appease ally parties, JUI-F, BNP-M and NP over legislation related to Reko Diq project. Ayaz Sadiq and Azam Nazeer Tarar met JUI-F and BNP-M leaders to remove their reservations over legislation related to Reko Diq project. Ministers apprised allies that government is ready to amend bill. Tarar told disgruntled leaders that he is standing on promises he made on National Assembly’s floor. Ally parties of ruling coalition expressed displeasure over government’s move on Reko Diq project, staging walkout from meeting of Cabinet.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif contacted disgruntled allies of government including JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and BNP Chairman Akhtar Mengal. Three leaders have agreed on holding meeting soon. PM telephoned Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Sardar Akhtar Mengal. Sources told PM Shehbaz has started making contacts with allied parties to allay their reservations regarding legislation on Reko Diq.
