Digital environment can address governance, service delivery issues: CDT head

ISLAMABAD: Tabadlab’s Centre for Digital Transformation (CDT) head of advisory Umar Nadeem said Pakistan lags far behind in establishing digital environment that can effectively address chronic governance challenges, service delivery issues, economic opportunities and gender participation.

Report argues that country needs to fully embrace potential of digital to take advantage of having young population and delay in adopting ‘Digital first’ approach could increase gap between Pakistan and its regional and global peers, potentially affecting its position and participation in global economy.

Small scale farmers can improve their economic well-being through tailored advisory services and higher quality input, improved access to credit and markets all through smartphone.

Remote communities can access timely healthcare and quality education through digital platforms. These are just few of exciting possibilities that can be implemented at scale by Pakistan’s digital transformation, according to new report, ‘Digital Now: A guide to Pakistan’s digital transformation’ from CDT.

Report highlights potential of digital technology to improve quality of life for Pakistanis across board, from urban professionals to rural villagers. It provides roadmap for Pakistan’s digital transformation, offering framework for thinking about digital opportunities in holistic and interconnected manner. Authored by Alina Khan, Hiba Fatima and Naeha Rashid, report draws on research and consultations with stakeholders across public and private sector.

Report provides foundational analysis necessary to institutionalise development and adoption of vision that will make Pakistan truly digital. It recommends strategic and long-term approach, with commitment of all stakeholders including political leaders, technical experts, bureaucracy, civil society and people of Pakistan.
