KARACHI: The Office of Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Government of Sindh Karachi has been reportedly called as a center of corruption, mismanagement and unlawful activities prevailed with the general public.

According to details Navid Ahmed Abbasi, Deputy Registrar, issued a letter to Jahanzeb Baloch, Administrator/Authorized Election Officer, Karimabad Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd. He referred an application filed by some persons claiming to be the members of Karimabad Ismailia Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., addressed to the Registrar, Cooperative Societies, Sindh.

It was concluded by Navid Abbasi that according to provision of Section 24 of the Cooperative Societies Act 2020 the member of a society who sold out his share/ interest in the society ceases to be a member of the society and the person purchased such share and interest will be enrolled as a member of the society subject to rules. Therefore the applicants who have purchased flats/ premises in the society by virtue of Sale Deed/ Gift Deed are very much eligible to participate in the forthcoming election of the society.

He also noticed that due to caution imposed by the NAB (due to Rs.800 million corruption cases in the Society), transfer of share and premises was banned in the society as such the cases of applicants for transfer in the record of the society could not be considered, resultantly their names were not appearing in the List of Members of the society displayed by Administrator/ Authorized Election Officer for the purpose of holding election of the society.

However, in the very next Para of his letter Navid Ahmed Abbasi, Deputy Registrar flouting the NAB orders took a U-turn and wrote; “Since the society is a maintenance society and there will be no harm if the applicants/ persons who have acquired shares/ interest in the society through Sale Deed/ Gift Deed/ Sale Agreement, are allowed to participate in the election of the society as a member.”

He further added: “I am therefore directed to advise you to add the names of applicants and other persons who have acquired shares/ interest in the society, in the list of members of the society and allow them to participate in the forthcoming election.”

Informed sources disclosed that this U-turn by the Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies, is costing heavily to the residents of the Society who are suffering through the hands of Navid Ahmed Abbasi’s close friend and ally in all corruptions Imran Arwan, an illegal Hon. Secretary elect of the Society who was nor bonafide resident neither member of the Society but involved in plundering of the financial resources and huge funds collected by the residents under the patronage of Deputy Registrar, Cooperative Societies and others.
