Death toll from Swat’s Kabal twin blasts rises to 16, 70 injured

SAWAT: Death toll from Monday’s twin blasts at CTD Police Station in Swat’s Kabal Town rose to 16 with number of injured reported as 70. According to details, at least 16 people were martyred, including 12 policemen and 70 including lady police official sustained injuries in twin blasts. Dead victims include policemen, woman and child and five prisoners. Among deceased were Sher Alam, Taj Muhammad, Asmat Ali, Khalilur Rahman, Bakht Rokhan, Fazal Raziq, Nahid, Abdullah Khan and Ashraf Ali.
Two blasts occurred in Swat’s Kabal Town near CTD Police Station. After explosion, electricity supply to area was also disrupted. Heavy contingents of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) rushed to scene.
Police in its preliminary investigation said primary reason behind two explosions was short circuit in ammunition depot. As many as 16 people including 16 police men were killed in two blasts occurred in CTD’s Pabal Police Station in area of Swat while over 70 persons were injured. Several among injured are stated to be in critical condition.
Emergency was imposed in all hospitals and rescue teams have also reached site and wounded persons are being shifted to local hospital.
According to reports, several cops sustained injuries in bomb explosions and nearby buildings were also damaged. Building of police station was completely destroyed in incident.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah strongly condemned bombing incident and expressed sorrow over loss of precious lives.
Rana said that sacrifices of martyrs will not be forgotten and menace of terrorism will be uprooted. He sought report on bombing incident.
DIG CTD Khalid Sohail said that two bomb explosions took place inside police station where weaponry and mortar shells were also stored. “Explosions might have occurred due to mortar shells or it may be suicide blast.”
Sohail said that explosion was not carried out at police station’s gate. “It was old building of CTD police station and mostly offices and personnel were shifted to new building.”
