KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) two opposition parties in Sindh Assembly have failed to reach consensus over name of opposition leader in Assembly.
According to details, MQM-P delegation held meeting with GDA leaders to get their support for slot of opposition leader in Sindh Assembly. During meeting, MQM-P delegation requested GDA to support its candidate for Sindh opposition leader slot which was declined by GDA leadership.
"We have supported your candidate in Senate elections, now it's our turn to appoint opposition leader in Sindh," GDA leader reportedly told MQM-Pakistan delegation.
Currently, seat of opposition leader is being held by PTI's Haleem Adil Sheikh, while in current defections of MPAs, PTI has lost 10 out of its 30 seats in provincial assembly.
MQM-P, which has 21 seats in provincial assembly has contacted Grand Democratic Alliance, which has 14 seats, for support in changing opposition leader, sources said.
Session of Sindh Assembly has been summoned on June 7 in which change of opposition leader was likely come under consideration. Reports emerged on Sunday that MQM-P had decided to give Pakistan Peoples' Party 'tough time' in Sindh Assembly.
