DC Central District Taha says atmosphere of religious harmony, brotherhood should be promoted
Scholars, organisers, security agencies personnel, civic bodies’ officials attend Muharram arrangement meeting

KARACHI: Deputy Commissioner Central District Taha Saleem chaired meeting to finalise arrangements to ensure peaceful conduct of majalis-e-aza, processions and mourning in Central District during Ashura Muharram.
ADC.I and ADC.II assistant commissioners of central district, town chairmen, town municipal commissions, transition officers including scholars of different schools of thought, funeral procession organisers, administration of masajid and imambargahs, Karachi Water and Sewerage Board, apart from representatives of electric, Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, officers of central and law enforcement agencies participated.
Taha Saleem said that an atmosphere of complete Islamic brotherhood and religious harmony should be established in Central District during Ashura and Muharram and law enforcers should be deployed to end any kind of violence and hatred. Institutions should be informed immediately and co-operation with each other to maintain law and order. He directed officers of concerned departments of District to clean areas surrounding masajid, imambargahs and meeting places of majalis in all zones of District ahead and improve lighting arrangements. Scholars highlighted importance of Muharram and mourning.
They said that mourning is an act of worship that has been going on for 1400 years and will continue until Day of Judgment. Management of masajid and imambargahs in central district and representatives of procession committees explained issues of their respective areas, including cleanliness, road repair, especially performance of sewage lines and unannounced load shedding by K-Electric. Emphasis was placed on paying more attention to load shedding issues. In meeting, performance of District administration was appreciated, while performance of K. Electric and Water and Sewerage Board was severely criticised. Taha Salim assured all possible cooperation to solve problems.
Meanwhile, Central District administration and Central Municipality strive to provide best civic and municipal services to Hussain mourners. Procession routes, meeting places, masajid and imambargahs are cleaned and better arrangements are made for lighting, while special medical camps and water fountains are provided by district administration on procession routes. Law enforcement agencies, police and Rangers personnel perform their duties diligently to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful conduct of processions.
