Day-22: Two plays presented at ‘Pakistan Theatre Festival’

Karachi: On 22nd day of ongoing Pakistan Theatre Festival in Arts Council Karachi, theatre plays ‘Ikhtiyar’ and ‘AnarKali Se Aage’ were presented. Director of theatre play ‘Ikhtiyar’ was Sheryl John, while writer was Meesam Naqvi, cast of drama including Owais Rehan, Alina, Husnain and Manal. P{lay was poignant story of life-long struggle of boy haunted by challenges that test his faith since childhood, his spouse, they are reeling from heartbreaking miscarriage that has turned their world upside down and strained their marriage as their story unfolds.
As they unfold importance of unity and resilience, ‘Empowerment’ is powerful exploration of love, loss and way forward amid life’s difficulties.
Second theatre ‘Anarkali Se Aage’ was directed by Fawad Khan while writer was Abdul Rahman while cast of drama included Rayan Khan and Abdul Rahman. Drama shows that on evening of December 27, 1928, police officer was murdered, an FIR has been registered against two unidentified persons, suspected to be Bhagat Singh and his revolutionary group HSRA. British police had been raiding and searching for suspects, particularly at colleges and universities, as rumors suggest killers were young boys, creating an atmosphere of fear, as any possible HSRA, anyone else. Could be linked to organisation or even spy for British forces, there are two students in this room, Baldev Singh who is Sikh and Riaz Ali who is Muslim. Future may become history. Audience loved theatre and encouraged performers.
