Dar aims to establish $15bn reserve before government tenure ends

Islamabad: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that Assembly would dissolve once government’s term ends but says he aims to establish reserve of fifteen billion dollars before stepping down.
In an interview on a TV programme he expressed his belief that Army Chief played role in securing financial support from Saudi Arabia and UAE and praised General Asim Munir and General Nadeem Anjum for acting in national interest and commended current leadership of Army for their fiscal discipline.
He highlighted Chief Justice’s opinion that lifetime disqualification is illogical, emphasising importance of five-year disqualification law passed by National Assembly. He advocated for trial of attackers in military courts and stressed need for all institutions to operate within their constitutional limits, maintaining balance between discipline and democracy. He said that it took eight months to avert default and to restore stability economy, which had been harmed by manipulated market circumstances. “Goal of government is to return things to normal and lower value of dollar to Rs 250, with long-term target of bringing dollar to Rs 244. Regarding timeline, he mentioned, “Within remaining 40 days, Saudi Arabia has pledged to provide $ 2 billion and another $ 1 billion is expected from UAE.”
Indicating that Nawaz Sharif intends to return to Pakistan before polls, he emphasised significance of fair and transparent elections.
