Karachi: Dairy farmers moved Sindh High Court (SHC) for hike in fresh milk price. Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi took up plea of dairy farmers. Association sought court’s intervention to fix fresh milk rate at Rs 229 per litre. Sindh government lawyer informed court that fresh milk’s retail price was fixed at Rs 200 per litre in October, last year.
Current rate hike is only associated with dairy farmers, who are seeking higher profit margins. SHC CJ remarked court cannot help association on profit matters as it would be decided as per market.
SHC after summoning records from Karachi Commissioner adjourned hearing until May 28. Last week, Commissioner Karachi approved hike of Rs 10 per litre in price of fresh milk on demand of Dairy Farmers’ Association.
As per directives of Commissioner, price of fresh milk was surged by Rs 10 per litre, with shops in Karachi now selling commodity at Rs 210 per litre.
