LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) adjourned plea to stop immediate appointment of chairman of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for indefinite period due to non-appearance of petitioner’s lawyer.
Court directed to club plea with petition filed earlier against appointment of Raja Riaz as opposition leader. Justice Muhammad Raza Qureshi heard petition of citizen named Munir Ahmed.
Government and others had been made parties in petition. “NAB chairman is to be appointed in consultation with prime minister and opposition leader,” petitioner said.
“Petition against nomination of opposition leader is pending in court. Situation in National Assembly is also changing, and leader of opposition may be changed,” he had added.
“Consultation with opposition leader for appointment of NAB chairman is meaningless and illegal. Process for appointing new NAB chairman should be stopped until final decision about opposition leader,” he had demanded.
