LAHORE: An Anti-Corruption Court granted pre-arrest bail to former Chief Minister Punjab and Pakitan Tehreek-e-Insaf President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi and prevented concerned quarters from arresting him until May 17. Elahi is accused of involvement in corruption of Rs125 million.
First information report filed in case names Elahi, his son Moonis Elahi and his principal secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti among others for having allegedly received kickbacks worth Rs 125 million through Lahore Waste Management Company from foreign company against payable amount. Out of total amount, Elahi is accused of having taken bribe worth Rs 6.5 million while remainder was supposedly distributed amongst other parties. Anti-Corruption Establishment Punjab claimed to have registered an FIR against accused persons based on substantial evidence.
On Friday however, as former CM appeared before Anti-Corruption Court, his counsel maintained that allegations were false. He argued that case was registered with intention of “Humiliating” Elahi and was politically motivated. “FIR’s narration is concocted story,” he argued stressing that PTI leader had “nothing to do with this case.”
