Country needs new social contract: Siraj

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami amir Siraj-ul-Haq said country was in dire need of renewed social contract to implement ‘constitutional supremacy’.
Addressing a press conference here, he lambasted both PDM government and PTI for allegedly ‘fighting for their own agendas’. Siraj said he was ready to mediate between two political sides to hold talks on apolitical role of military establishment, electoral reforms and supremacy of law and Constitution.
“Rift between PTI and PDM is only to safeguard their own interests and this rift has cost country a lot,” he said. He said that ruling elite had forgotten flood affected and laymen during their struggle for power.
Siraj-ul-Haq said both PDM and PTI governments sought loans from International Monetary Fund and continued to promote and interest based economy. He said only way forward were fresh general elections, but however showed reluctance that elections without electoral reforms would merely be a ‘fraud’. JI amir said current government was running away from holding Local Body polls across country.
