ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial has remarked corruption is harmful for democracy, society and rule of law. He gave these remarks while presiding over a 3-member bench of Supreme Court (SC) during course of hearing of petition filed by PTI Chairman Imran Khan against recent amendments in NAB laws.
Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan raised question why concession was given under NAB law. Its explanation has not been given. If tomorrow bribery is allowed then can no one stop it. It is not even a crime if third party is afforded benefit under amendments made in NAB laws recently.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah remarked basic rights can be affected if Parliament does not legislate. It seems from arguments of counsel for petitioner there is no law in place for curbing corruption in Pakistan. It seems from arguments as if Pakistan has turned into jungle. Khawaja Haris counsel for PTI argued Pakistan has signed UN Resolution on curbing corruption. By making recent amendments in NAB law, UN resolution was affected.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah inquired on occasion can Parliament be prevented from legislation by making international resolution as basis. While making mention of Pakistan Cricket Team, PTI counsel on one occasion said Pakistan cricket team has reached semi-final under a miracle.
CJP remarked at what time match will be played today. If you say we can get install screen outside SC for watching match. Justice Ijaz ul Ahsan remarked reaching semi-final by Pakistan cricket team is really a national miracle.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah while addressing counsel for PTI remarked “Give arguments if you don’t feel it ill and we will watch match later.” Hearing of case was adjourned till Wednesday November 9.
