ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Justice Ijazul Ahsan said that corruption could not be proven because of complexity created in cases’ trial due to NAB amendments.
A three-member bench headed by Justice Umar Ata Bandial, comprised of Justice Ijazul Ahsan and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah heard case against NAB amendments.
PTI lawyer Khawaja Haris, while giving his arguments over contradiction of NAB amendments with basic human rights said, “When all of NAB cases were sent to accountability courts, many of people were freed from all charges. “With acquittal of corrupt people, basic human rights of masses have been directly affected.”.
“Seems like you come up with a new point in case after every weekend,” CJP Umar Ata Bandial observed. Justice Mansoor Ali Shah questioned, “How are basic human rights being violated with NAB amendments? Could every other person move SC to say that approved budget is not reasonable? “Will it be a violation of basic human rights if FBR waives any individual’s tax?” CJP stated, “There is a benchmark of law, below from which there is lawlessness. We all agree that there should be a law on accountability. United Nations Convention against Corruption is prominently featured. Could we transfer UN Convention against Corruption in our laws?” PTI lawyer said, “With existing NAB amendments, corrupt employees are acquitted and relaxing in their houses.”
