Common citizen has no access to justice system due to corruption: CJP

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court (SC) adjourned hearing till today on petition of PTI’s Chairman Imran Khan against amendments in NAB laws. Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Umar Ata Bandial remarked that common citizen failed to get access to justice system due to corruption in society.
It wouldn’t be appropriate for top court to wait for approval of NAB Ordinance as it was hearing case since long, he observed during hearing.
Chief Justice remarked that whether making assets beyond known sources of income was still crime as per NAB law to this lawyer answered in yes. CJP observed that amendment in law of plea bargain was also good act.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah questioned that whether there was any legal precedent for applying amendments in law from past. He asked that where in countries of South Asia institutions like NAB were working. During course of proceeding, federal government’s Lawyer Makhdoom Ali Khan submitted draft of NAB amendment ordinance 2023 to bench. He said that new amendments in NAB law had been proposed in section-V and others which was with president for formal approval.
