Egypt: Sharm El-Sheikh: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif became centre of attention for global climate change conference in Egypt, flood in Pakistan and efforts to help victims. World leaders described Prime Minister’s continued presence in flood-affected areas as an extraordinary gesture. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with important world leaders at Sharm El-Sheikh International Congress Centre on occasion of COP 27 Summit.
President of Iraq Abdul Latif Rashid, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Vice President of Indonesia Mar’uf Amin met Prime Minister separately. Shehbaz Sharif also met with Prime Minister of Lebanon Najib Makati.
Prime Minister thanked Indonesia Vice President for prompt delivery of edible oil to Pakistan. Prime Minister conveyed message of good wishes to government and people of Indonesia. He discussed devastating effects of climate change with President of Tajikistan. Foreign leaders expressed their grief over destruction and loss of lives caused by floods in Pakistan. Whole world is affected by climate change, collective efforts are necessary, Shehbaz Sharif said while talking to world leaders.
He thanked international community for helping flood victims. Shehbaz Sharif and world leaders also discussed bilateral, regional and global issues.
Shehbaz Sharif and UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met on sidelines of COP 27 Summit.
He thanked UAE leadership and people for their generous assistance to flood victims. Commitment of COP 27 a good omen to combat effects of climate change, he termed. Dealing with the effects of climate change is not for developing countries alone, he said. Shehbaz Sharif also held meeting with Secretary General of Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit. They discussed issues of bilateral and mutual interest and agreed on strong cooperation to prevent devastating effects of climate change. He appreciated Arab League Charter and Secretary General determination to achieve it.
Meanwhile, he met with European Union Commissioner Ursula von der Leyen on sidelines of COP 27.
He appreciated spirit of European Union countries to help flood victims in Pakistan. Unity is essential to combat effects of climate change, he added. He appreciated cooperation of European countries in removing name of Pakistan from FATF’s grey list. There was lot of scope for increasing bilateral trade between EU and Pakistan.
