INDEPENDENTS, PML-N, PPP, MQM-P LEADING ALL THE WAY

KARACHI: Final round of declaring 2024 general election results almost ended up late yesterday night amid immense suspense, bafflement, disparagements and hue and cry from side of various political parties, analysts and public at large said.

In an absolute record-breaking historic results, for very first time in history of Pakistan in light of unofficial results declared by Election Commission, ‘independent’ candidates backed by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf have emerged as frontrunners in 2024 general elections after bagging 98 seats in National Assembly.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz attained second slot with  70 seats, Pakistan Peoples’ Party stands at third position with 52 seats in National Assembly and clean sweep of Sindh province followed by Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan with 15 seats in centre while 22 in provincial assembly Sindh. Interestingly, not a single major political group secured an outright majority, subsequent to which chances are higher to forming coalition government.

Preliminary results for four provincial assemblies reveal that PML-N and PTI neck to neck emerged majority party in Punjab, while PPP leads in Sindh and PTI dominates in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In Balochistan, no single party comes to have clear majority.

Out of 296 provincial assembly seats in Punjab, results have been obtained for 282 constituencies so far. According to unofficial results, PML-N has won elections in 133 seats, while PTI-backed independents have bagged 129 seats, followed by PPP with 10 seats.

Of 130 provincial assembly seats in Sindh, results have been acquired for 126 constituencies. PPP has secured victory in 82 seats, while MQM-P has clinched 22 constituencies, followed by independents with 14 seats.
