CM Naqvi okays Ramadan Mubarak Sports Series

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi Wednesday approved the "Ramadan Mubarak Sports Series" in a special meeting held in Lahore yesterday. The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Provincial Minister of Information, Advisor for Sports, DG Sports, Secretary Sports, Secretary Information, Commissioner Lahore, DC Lahore, DG Sports and related officials.

 In the meeting the CM was briefed about the total number of teams, different sports, venues, how the series would be executed sans government funds and the total prize money. It was explained in the briefing that "Ramadan Mubarak Sports Series" will feature football, table tennis, badminton, hockey, kabaddi and cricket contests. Teams from nine divisions across Punjab will take part in the competitions.

 In terms of how the series will be executed, the series will be fully sponsored, no government funds will be spent and winning teams will receive prizes worth Rs8.5 million. Likewise, the champions of table tennis, cricket, hockey, kabaddi, badminton, and other sports will also receive a cash award of Rs2.2 million.

 Moreover, hockey matches will be played at Mini Hockey Stadium every night from 7th to 11th April.  On the other hand, football and Kabaddi matches will be held at Punjab Football Stadium, and table tennis matches at Sports Gymnasium.

 Badminton competitions will take place at International Gymnasium Hall and cricket matches will be played at LCCA Cricket Ground. The 57 teams will compete in sports events during Ramadan, totaling 903 athletes and officials.

 The promotion of sports, according to CM Naqvi, is one of the Punjab government's top priorities, and more and more young people will be given the chance to take part in sports event.
