KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah  said that Pakistan Peoples’ Party emerged as single largest party in Local Body elections, therefore it has right to have its mayor.

“Had MQM not boycotted elections our opponents would not have taken such number of seats and this they know very well”, he said while talking to media after presiding over convocation of National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA) at Hindu Gymkhana here.

To a question, he said that had there been some compulsions that’s why Sindh government wanted to delay election, otherwise PPP would have taken many more seats than it has taken. “We requested MQM to avoid boycotting election, but their party decided to do so, as result their votes went in JI share, otherwise they were not in position even to take such number of seats”.

He said that in history PPP appointed its Administrator Murtaza Wahab for first time and what he had delivered is not secret to any Karachiites. “Our party has history of serving this city and its people and PPP will serve them as CM and mayor,” he said.

Talking about rehabilitation of flood-affected people, CM said that we started distributing money through well-reputed NGOs which have been made partners for housing project.

Regarding question about Safe City, he said only installation of cameras was not enough, but we have to strengthen our police with latest equipment and gadgets.

Earlier, speaking at Convocation Ceremony of NAPA he lauded efforts of Zia Mohiuddin and his team for successfully running Performing Art institution.

Sindh Minister for Culture Syed Sardar Shah said it is culture and music that connected people of different faiths and nationalities. CM distributed degrees among successful graduates and congratulated them on their graduation.
