CM Murad directs to seek help from int'l university to establish Sir CJ University Hyderabad

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah  directed health department to seek help from any international prestigious psychiatry University for establishment of Sir Cowasjee Jahangir University of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science Hyderabad.

Presiding over meeting here he said, "Sir CJ institute is over 150 years old and has been leading institute where patients from other countries used to come for treatment." Minister Health Dr Azra Pechuho briefed CM on upgradation of institute as university.

She said that institute's hospital and other related departments would be upgraded and best faculty members would be inducted.

Parliamentary Secretary Qasim Soomro, Chairman Sindh Mental Authority Dr Karim Khwaja, Chief Secretary Sohail Rajput, Chairman P&D Hassan Naqvi, PSCM Fayaz Jatoi, Secretary Health Zulfiqar Shah, and Commissioner Hyderabad Bilal Memon attended.

Dr Karim Khawaja said that institute was established over an area of 27 acres which was sufficient space for university.

At this, CM said that old building of institute happens to be heritage, therefore it must be preserved and renovated accordingly.

Murad Ali Shah directed P&D and Health department to jointly prepare PC-1 for university while in meantime, charter of university may be prepared.

He directed health department to contact any best international universities of psychiatry and acquire their help for making Sir C.J University one of best universities in country. CM said that he would continue holding follow-up meetings for completion of necessary documentation.
