PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur, has claimed that the law and order situation in the province has significantly improved under his government.
Speaking at a press conference at the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) headquarters in Peshawar, Gandapur responded to the Prime Minister’s recent claims about the CTD’s inactivity, asserting that the department remains a stable and effective institution. The Chief Minister emphasized that the CTD operates with 16 active stations across the province, which have successfully thwarted thousands of terrorist activities. He strongly defended the department’s performance, arguing that it had made notable strides in combating terrorism and ensuring public safety. Gandapur highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance prosecution capabilities, including the establishment of special cells for detainees. He also announced plans to recruit additional staff to strengthen the CTD’s operations and improve its overall efficiency in maintaining law and order.
In a significant move, Gandapur revealed that the provincial government would allocate Rs 1 billion in additional funding for the CTD. The funding will be used for procuring sniper kits and other critical equipment necessary for counter-terrorism operations. He also mentioned that the recruitment quota for police personnel would be increased from 5 percent to over 12 percent, with additional housing plots allocated to the families of martyrs in recognition of their sacrifices. Gandapur’s statements reflect the provincial government’s commitment to improving security measures and ensuring the safety of its citizens. The funding and recruitment initiatives are seen as key steps toward enhancing the capabilities of the CTD and the police force in addressing security challenges in the region.
